Accessibility Ramps
LCT is so excited to have new accessibility ramps in place for our students in wheelchairs. In the pictures below you will see that the ramps are placed in front of the stage and with the help of the amazing Kathleen Frohner, camouflaged for performances to be part of our stage and are used by everyone as an additional entrance/exit. Our amazing team of students put the ramps up and take them down at the end of each rehearsal and performance. It takes muscle and problem solving to get them just right. Special thanks to LCT techie, Chance Ritchie for leading this effort! Thanks to Ben Kolar, we have added safety panels around the stage and on the mid platform between the two ramps. Special thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Center, The Village Foundation, The Heritage League Women's Club and 101 Mobility for making these ramps possible.
Wish Fish Program
The Lincoln Children’s Theatre Kiwanis Builders Club is partnering with the Lincoln Down Syndrome Association for Families (DSAF) of Nebraska to encourage children with down syndrome and other disabilities and challenges to experience the benefits of theatre. The Builders Club has raised funds to offer scholarships to DSAF children to participate in the program. This program is made possible in part by the generous support of the Nebraska Arts Council and The Nebraska Cultural Endowment!
With LCT’s (formerly Theatre Arts For Kids) spring show, The Little Mermaid Jr., the Builders Club launched Wish Fish! Wish Fish pairs a veteran LCT student/Builder’s Club member with a child with a disability or challenge. The Builders Club students are dedicated to the success of each Wish Fish!
LCT’s Wish Fish program formalizes a mentorship program that has been building through the past many years. The Builders Club intends for the Wish Fish program to continue for years to come making the benefits of theatre possible for all children despite any challenge.
Builders Club member, Ellyson Stolcpart (age 11) spoke highly of her experience working with one of our Wish Fish.
“Being on stage with Andy was the best experience of my life. He was having so much fun and was doing all of the dance moves. Having this opportunity to work with Andy was so much fun. It filled my heart with joy.”
The Lincoln Children’s Theatre believes that theatre is for all the fish in the sea!
